Agenda/Discussion topic: Polarization

(Continued discussion of polarization from the February 2008 meetup)

Fred, Mark, and Russ will be co-presenters on the topic of polarization. Mark will present a demonstration of polarization using calcite crystals. Russ will present some of the basic physics behind polarization. Fred will tie the two presentations together by showing how Russ's explanation works for calcite crystals using a detailed model of a calcite molecule that Fred built. Fred will then show how circular polarizers made from liquid crystals and plastic enable the latest 3D movie technology. Everyone else is welcome to bring other polarizing items for show-and-tell, and everyone should bring a pair of polarizing sunglasses, if available.
